About the Parish of the Nativity of the Lord

About The Parish of the Nativity of the Lord

In May 2009 the Parish of the Nativity of the Lord was officially inaugurated by Bishop Kieran Conry, bringing together in a single united community nearly 1500 worshippers from the former Parishes of St Joseph’s in Redhill, Holy Family in Reigate and St Teresa of the Child Jesus in Merstham.

Heralded by Bishop Kieran as a ‘historic moment for the new Parish and the diocese at a time of grace and growth’, the inauguration of the Parish of the Nativity of the Lord marked a significant development in the life of the Catholic community in Surrey.

Hard work, prayer and reflection all contributed to the formation of the joint Parish – from the practical reorganisation and stream-lining of work, administration, activities and pastoral care into one single entity, to the emotional process involved with creating a new bond and trust as one community. Already there has been marked progress and a growing sense of community and unity amongst the three Churches as they establish a strong bond and share resources and talent.

The Parish of the Nativity of the Lord, whilst retaining its three Churches, is administered as a single Parish under the care of a team of three Priests. The Priest team comprises Father Chris Spain, together with Father Andrew Moss and Father Tim Hunting. Working with the Priests are Deacon Tim Murrill and key groups of lay representatives from the three Churches in the form of Core Groups and the Parish Pastoral Council.

Our Vision

All the work being undertaken in the Parish is contributing to the building of God’s Kingdom, not only for this Parish, but for the wider community and for future generations.

We, the Parish of The Nativity of the Lord,
embrace three flourishing Catholic communities
in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.

We take as our model Jesus Christ our Lord.

We know each other by name. We value one
another and care for each other’s needs.
We pray for one another.

We welcome the stranger and are committed
to the ‘option for the poor’.

We recognise that God has blessed every one
of us with great and different gifts, and we
commit to share our gifts and our time.

We take responsibility for our part in building
the Kingdom of God:
Through our active participation in our Parish
liturgy, ministries, sacramental programmes
and social activities.
In the wider community through service
and witness.
In prayer and action to help make a better world.

We ask Jesus, our Lord, to help bring to fruition
our aspirations and efforts for the glory of
His name and the good of all.

Amen
